Per.spec.tive

Brandon L

Brandon RBrandon  has given us a great first entry in the Perspective Idol contest.  I like the expression on this characters face; it makes me wonder what he’s thinking!

our first contest!

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the 1st annual…perspective idol logo

That’s right, we’re sponsoring an art contest! First prize is a $20 gift certificate, and the judges are…you! The rules are simple:

  • Entries must be personally given to me (Mr. Priem) in T-20 before Feb. 9
  • All entries will be posted on Per.spec.tive
  • Voting will begin Monday, Feb. 12, and end that Friday.
Students may email me their vote, or fill out a paper ballot in the media center.
  • The winner will be announced Monday, Feb. 19

May the best artist win!

Lauren

Lauren2Wow, I really love the composition of this piece. Lauren makes excellent use of negative space for a really dramatic presentation! (Negative space is the “empty” parts of the drawing; in this case, the white areas around of the dragon.)

Brandon L

Brandon RI think Brandon was really creative in inventing this character. I like the way the red fire outlines him. All those cuts and scrapes…I wonder what he’s been tangling with?

Per.spec.tive Poll!

We’re proud to introduce a new feature here at Per.spec.tive: a poll!  No more sitting around your house, wishing you could anonymously register your opinion on some trivial topic!  Now you can vote here!  Yay!  Here’s our first poll ever:

Jordan

img32.JPGI like this guy’s face–it’s so intense, and his eyes are kinda scary.   Thanks, Jordan!

Lauren M

Lauren MI like Lauren’s bold shading and lines on this figure. I sure wouldn’t want her mad at me!
(And apologies to Lauren for getting the gender wrong the first time [blushes]…)

Jake G.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted a poem here on Per.spec.tive; thanks,  Jake for sending us this beauty.

  Long Ago

 Long ago, Bob Dylan wrote
The times, they may be different,
But the attitude’s the same.
Long ago, Shakespeare said
The world was all a stage,
But if that’s true, then (unlike characters)
Why can’t corpses age?
“I Dreamt a Dream! What can it mean?”
Wrote William Blake long ago,
The answer then, I could have seen,
For now, I just don’t know.
And now a quote from the mind of Walt Whitman,
“Yeah, Death, we bow our faces, veil our eyes to thee”,
Things have changed, time has changed,
And yet we still do not wish to see
“Heaven”- is what I cannot reach!”
A quote from a time when everything was harder,
And now, some hundred – and — ten years later,
We live in a world where we’re no smarter.
The last of the real poets,
They’ve all passed, we know.
But you will have to pardon me,
For I believe in long ago.

Jessica M

Jessica MThese cats are pretty cute!    I bet this pic will be a favorite for any cat lovers out there.  Even if you’re not a cat fancier, you’ve got to love the rich colors and nice lines.  Thanks, Jessica!

John H

john hI like the textures of this drawing.  This is John’s first post on Per.spec.tive, so let’s show him some love.

Alexis S

Alexis SAlexis has made up a cool character here.  I like how this drawing makes me want to know more about her and her story.

Sarah M

Sarah MWell, it’s been a long break for Per.spec.tive, but we’re back.  Sarah starts us off right with this cool drawing.  Thanks Sarah!

Brandon R.

Brandon ROk, due to popular demand, here’s one last picture for the year (and I think it’s Brandon’s best yet).  But that’s the last one.  Really.  You in the back, put your hand down, the answer is no. :)

See you all next year, and enjoy your summer!

Per.spec.tive

Per.spec.tive is going on a much needed summer vacation!

You’ll have to wait till next year to submit any new art or poems; in the meantime, feel free to check out and comment on student work from last year.  It’s pretty darn sweet, if I do say so myself.

Big thanks to all the teachers and students whose comments and creative work supported this site in its first months.  See you next year!

Drew D

Drew DI know Drew’s an avid skateboarder, so the subject of this picture’s no surprise.  I like the action is this image.  Can anyone reveal what trick he’s doing, or at least narrow it down?

Melissa W

Melissa W 2Melissa (aka Fia) tells me she made up these characters to be the guards of another world.  I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t try to sneak past them.  I love the poses, the shading, the labels, the drapery–pretty much all of it!

Song K

Song KWhoa!  The way Song has smoothly blended a wide range of values, from dark black to bright white, really makes this drawing jump out at you.  I also really like the cross-hatched style of shading, especially on the wings.
