Closin’ up shop
Well, folks, it’s that time of year. People are moving on and moving up: to a new grade, to a new school, to new jobs. Things are changing.
And Per.spec.tive is no exception. Over the last year, we’ve seen dozens of talented kids (and a few teachers!) post their art, and we’ve posted hundreds of comments on it. I think we’ve created an incredible community of artists here, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.
But, as I’m not going to be teaching here next year, Per.spec.tive is going to be gone, too. So, thanks to all the artists who posted their work, to all the kids who commented on it, and to all the teachers who gave Per.spec.tive their support. I’ll miss you all. Best of luck next year!
Mr. Peppers
That’s right, our very own Assistant Principal Peppers has another poem for Perspective! I like the surprising ending on this one. What do you all think?
I consider myself to be an important part
I may be flat and have four holes, but my presence is sorely needed.
Without me bare flesh would run rampant everywhere,
A button after all has a job to be proud of.
Per.spec.tive Idol contest winners!
In case you haven’t heard on the announcements or in the comments yet, UGMS has spoken in the Per.spec.tive Idol contest–and the winner is…A TIE!
That’s right, we actually had two co-winners: Amanda and Cecilia. Check out their awesome entries, and leave them some comments!
And big thanks to all the great artists who entered the contest. We had a terrific response, and I hope I see you all on Per.spec.tive again!
Veronica Y
I like the way the character’s hair is blowing in the wind, and the way the dragon’s head is all wiggly; these two make a pretty fierce pair!
Morgan D
I love so much about this picture: the rich blue used as an accent to the mostly-neutral palette; the delicate linework on the drapery; the well-proportioned hands (and we all know how hard hands are!)–great work, Morgan!
Jesse M
I like the use of contrasting colors in this picture. I also think it’s cool how Jesse shows the way you can see through the bottom part of her skirt; drawing transparency is pretty tough.
Nicole H
We don’t get very many non-figural works on per.spec.tive, so I’m glad that Nicole submitted one for the contest. And it’s just in time for Valentine’s day! I like the energy of the brushwork.
Shavon W
I like the use of perspective to show the space between these two characters. I wonder so much about the relationship between them…the way they’re posed, and the expressions on their faces give me a few ideas, and give me questions, too. Wondering about them really draws me into the picture.
Kelly S
Kelly’s contributed quite a few pics and comments to Per.spec.tive, and I’m glad that she’s submitted something to the contest, too. This character has an interesting sort of intensity to her; she’s very captivating. I like the way Kelly uses contrasting colors here, too.
Lauren M
Lauren’s been such a great supporter of Per.spec.tive, and I was afraid she wouldn’t submit an entry to the contest…she got this in on the last day. I think it was worth the wait, Lauren! It looks like a movie poster…and the movie looks like one I’d like to see!
Kevni W
I love the dynamic composition of this picture; Kevni’s positions the figure to give a great sense of movement. I also like the stark white highlights on the back and hair. I really wonder what this person’s story is…looks exciting!
Gabriell M
Mmmm, I really like the graceful, flowing lines in this drawing…they’re so graceful! I love how this figure dominates the composition; very dramatic.
Cecilia
!Per.spec.tive Idol contest CO-WINNER!
Congratulations, Cecilia!
Portrait drawing is really hard, so I think this piece is very impressive. You get a sense of the subject’s personality.
This bird looks so colorful–putting on a plain white background really makes the colors stand out, too.
Amanda B
!Per.spec.tive Idol contest CO-WINNER!
Congratulations, Amanda!
Amanda’s a new contributor to Perspective, and I think you’ll agree that she’s made an excellent debut with her Perspective Idol entry! I’m so impressed with the line work on this pic, and Amanda shows off some great figure-drawing skill; the pose looks really natural, which is tough!
Alexis S
Here’s Alexis’ Perspective Idol entry. Can anyone guess how Alexis got such bright colors? I know!
